Week 1 29/04/2019

As the Account Executive for Indian operation for SafeToNet, I am supposed to be bringing the business to India and setting up the safeguarding app for children for the sub-continent. I have been in talks, going back and forth with concerned institutions and key people who are potential business opportunities and trying to keep them interested enough to keep us in their attention. I am also expected to share my duties with the Commercial Team and adapt to every aspect of the business and help with as much as I possibly can. Taking this on with determination, every week I find it easier to sink my feet into a set of new tasks. The first week started during the first week of May, right after all the submissions for all my classes. I had informed my bosses and colleagues that I will be starting full-time and will be coming in every day and set up the concerned structure for my internship. I continued with what I was handed in the earlier week, including office-related tasks such as the device inventory and the organizational aspects for the office. Additionally, tasks are handed around and people get delegated quite often. In which case, sometimes Richard Pursey, the CEO asks the team to do some research about certain things he would like and when that happens, we get on that task as soon as possible and try to deliver before he asks us for it.

Week 2 6/05/2019

This week, I took upon a new segment of the business and offered my helping hand in the social media aspect of the business. Neil, who runs the SafeToNet Foundation is the CMO of the company and takes care of the online presence of the company. I volunteered to help him out and will be trying to make our online presence more effective, in an attempt to make the brand more popular and recognisable. For starters, I am trying to see how I could make the LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter pages better. Updating the logos, descriptions, taking off any old features we do not offer anymore, and updating the online content to aid the agenda in any way is how I will start this particular task. Following that, I shall jump back onto getting on calls with the concerned team in India that are currently helping us out with the India side of operations.

Week 3 13/05/2019

I have started to realise that the time spent in the office has to be extremely organised and structure to be able to reach full capabilities. For example, I have decided that every Monday of every week will be spent organising the social media and having a list of posts ready to go at a moment’s notice. By Tuesday I should have a concrete list. Ever since this was done, my attention diverted towards the ‘Meet The Team’ video that turned into another ‘promo video’. Since the video had to be made on iMovie and Keynote, this was a first. To have the video look as up to par with the company’s expectations, the video took a bit longer than expected. There were loads of experimenting and playing around with the tools offered on iMovie to come up with the best possible results and at the end of it all, all we are hoping for is traction online when its posted up on all the social media channels.

Artificial Intelligence

  • SafeToNet’s powerful features are fully automated. The algorithms use continuous learning techniques that improve over time often revealing concerns that both you and your child may not be aware of

Text Filters

  • SafeToNet automatically analyses outgoing messages for areas of concern such as bullying and sexting. It will remove harmful words and advise your child of the risks in real-time.

Image Filters

  • SafeToNet can detect inappropriate images such as nudity on your child’s device and render them unusable. Parents never get to see the image unless their child lets them.

Week 4 20/05/2019

This entire week was dedicated to wrap up the promo video for the company. One of the reasons for the video was to increase the visibility of the company as well as for the award we are aiming to receive. The award is called the Europas and the particular segment we are going for under the Europas is the Tech for Good award. Once achieved, it would give us the merit we need to forward our agenda of safeguarding young children from the dangers of the online world. The Europas has been quite the focal point of attention for the Commercial team and hopefully the promo video that is made boosts the potential of our company to win it.

Week 5 27/05/2019

Now that the video is finished and I look back at how the team went about making it, I cant help but think of all the ways we could have done certain things differently. Since this was my first time on iMovie ever since I made a simple music video in Richmond for one of my undergrad class, it took quite a lot of patience to getting to know what the pro tools do. Once I got the hang of it, it was easier to manoeuvre around the software. The only difference was that the imagery I had in mind of how I’d like the video to turn out like, it was a bit harder to execute that exact vision. Alongside the progression of the video, the team constantly put up their opinions and suggestions on how to improve the task at hand and that only helped perfect the video. In hindsight, making the green screen from scratch was quite a challenge as the papers that we stuck together had to be perfectly stuck on a flat board with no shadows from the overlapping. While editing, we had to keep in mind the laws of copyright when it comes to the usage of music for commercial use. When we realised the initial track needed a personal licence, we had to jump onto another option that was entirely free for use.
